Cesar Chavez has a place today in American History. The official date, as of March 28 of 2014 is March 31st -the day Cesar Estrada Chavez was born in 1927- The national proclamation was signed by President Barrack Obama two weeks after I published this article.
A prequel to the presidential proclamation was the establishment of the date in California, and other states had dedicated public buildings -libraries and schools- and parks to the social justice champion, born in rural Yuma, Arizona. This article was an account of that history leading to the presidential proclamation of 2014.
